Phosphorus is a constituent of proteins, nucleic acid and enzymes, it is an important nutrient for root growth and the ripening of fruit, it must be present in seeds for germination to take place. Phosphorus is recycled within the plant and has a tendancy to build up in regularly fertised soil. Deficiencies of this nutrient are rare.
